been awhile

There is so much turmoil in the world, and in our lives, that I’ve just not been here much.  been doing the usual, the garden, learning, expanding my efforts, trying to cope, making decisions.  Like deciding to put in water barrels, and having the rainiest spring we can recall in our 19 years of living here!

As I’m reading, and trying to make the best plans for us, realize that we have limitations because of our age.  at 66, am young enough to live another 25 or 30 years, maybe more.  But am old enough to realize that my abilities to do some of the things that might need to be done when the SHTF, might well be limited!  Of course, pondering this is about as helpful as trying to figure out what happens when you die.  The best alternative is to develop a community of like minded people, and if we’re lucky, we will be able to do so.

One of my biggest struggles over the last year or so has been how to carry my gun.

This blog post is part of why I’ve been focusing on this so much: http://injennifershead.com/?p=6355

My carry choice is a big old full size .357 revolver.  Finding a good holster and a good method to carry has been hard.  The bottom line is – I’ve had to make the decision to give up my fashion choice and just go back to jeans.  And even then, the revolver, loaded, is heavy enough to just pull the jeans down to one side in an uncomfortable manner.  So I’ve reverted back to a semi-auto 9mm, IWB.  It took awhile to find a crossbreed style holster that was specific to my 9mm, and then I had to take It apart, using the kydex, the screws, and the metal belt loops and add them to a piece of leather that I’d cut to fit my body, at a cant and level that makes drawing and reholstering doable.  When wearing it, the weight is distributed comfortably.  I wear the holster at about 4:30 (with my front being 12. This way it is not sticking into my leg or stomach.

While I did find a decent holster for the revolver, it is definitely an OWB holster and I carry about the same point so the barrel doesn’t jam into my body.  Ultimately, think I’ll get one of those heavy duty tactical thigh holsters for it and wear it under skirts. It does mean no pencil skirts, but a good loose broomstick will likely not print.  Or I can wear it over my jeans when out hiking and such.

Part of what I’ve been looking for are ways to carry, that are comfortable, regardless of what I’m wearing and which gun I’m using, so my weapon is always in the same place.
